Serbia is one of the countries which are rich in folklore and  has got a lot of interesting folk dances and a lot of beautiful folk songs. Our people sing and dance in various occasions. People are singing at family celebrations and in everyday life.

Circle (Kolo)

The most famous folk dance in Serbia is “Circle”. This folk dance was created in prehistory. Serbian Circle is group, ancient and very famous folk dance in Serbia. In the Circle, groups of people hold their hands while they are playing in an imaginary circle. The Serbian Circle is played with music. The most famous circles in Serbia are: “Užičko”, “Čačak” and “Moravac”. The Serbian National Circle was inscribed on the UNESCO list of the intangible cultural heritage of mankind on December 9th, 2017.

Folk songs and dances are landmarks of life and of customs of our people. Cultural and artistic societies are very important to our folklore, because they store Serbian culture, folk dances, folk songs and customs. “Rumenka” is one of the Serbian folk dances which is widespread in eastern Serbia. This dance is very interesting, because toy and music phases usually do not match. Serbian folk costume is very beautiful and costume has got a lot of small details. Skirts, dresses, aprons, socks, bodices, peasant shoes, belts and a lot of beautiful things belong to Serbian folk costume. The style of play is related to the geographical area and the ethnic community in that area. There are folk dances from Šumadija, Western Serbia, Vlach games…

Each of these areas is characterized by unique style of playing, different folk costumes, sounds and music. In the Pannonian area, the way of playing is cheerful and it is played with easy and small steps, without much separation from the ground. In the Central area, they played it with a relaxed body, with limp knees and a slight ripple, just as the land of this area was waved. The backbone of the central area are “Pomoravlje” and “Šumadija”. In Šumadija, the most popular folk dances are: “Gružanka”, “Žika round”, “Kokonješte” and “Mačvanka”. In the Dinaric area, the most popular games are “Užičanka” and “Planinka”. The characteristics of these dances are small steps that are performed so that the knees do not bend, on the whole feet.

These are just some of the many areas in Serbia which have got beautiful folk games.

Intention

Opis
