The Vilenica International Literary FestivalLiterarni Festival Vilenica

Description

The Vilenica International Literary Festival is a meeting of poets, writers, playwrights and essayists from Central Europe, organized by the Slovenian Writers’ Association held in the Karst and elsewhere in Slovenia. The festival has been held in the first week of September since 1986. It includes a number of literary and cultural events: round tables, literary readings, a book fair, colloquia, and presentations of literature and literary publications. The final event takes place in the Vilenica cave. Among the awarded writers from Central Europe are famous names: Fulvio Tomizza, Peter Handke, Milan Kundera, David Albahari, Olga Tokarczuk… The professional program offers many opportunities for in-depth discussion on current literary, cultural and broader social topics, and social events create a space for relaxed socializing and getting to know each other.

Intention

Literature is like nature. A masterpiece. Eternity. Imprint of time. Something that never goes away, but is so vulnerable at the same time. We go into both when looking for traces of the past, either the formation of rocks or human history. We go there when we are looking for a disconnect, a wild one or for good night. The creation of nature is as beautifully woven as the creation of words that touch our hearts. And it is man who can ennoble or destroy this harmony.

In a time that seems faster and more powerful than ever, nature and literature are more vulnerable than they seem. Let us listen to nature and our fellow man, let us have freedom of spirit and expression, and let us take care of our descendants. This should be our guide for the heritage that has been created for millennia to remain and develop. The Vilenica Award, the intertwining of words in a wonderful palette of languages and the magical environment of the Vilenica Cave have been showing the right path for decades.

Strokovni program nudi veliko priložnosti za poglobljeno razpravo o aktualnih literarnih, kulturnih in širših družbenih temah, družabni dogodki pa ustvarjajo prostor sproščenega druženja in spoznavanja.

Namen

Literatura je kot narava. Mojstrovina. Nagrada Vilenica, preplet besed v čudoviti paleti jezikov in čarobno okolje jame Vilenice že desetletja kažeta pravo pot.
