Description

For me, books are “food for life”: friends and consolers in all life situations. Of course, they impart knowledge and increase the wealth of experience, but beyond that, artistic language (I love poetry) is an eminent emotional enrichment of life. Illustrations and good book binding, firm, strong paper and beautifully designed bookmarks provide a haptic experience that an e-reader cannot provide. I like reading the most lying by the sea: e.g. the Divine Comedy by Dante on the background of the eternal thundering of waves. I also devoured the entire work of Sigmund Freud on a deckchair at the Tyrrhenian Sea. A very few books I read twice or three times, for example Balzac’s The Skin of Sorrow, always with new insights.

Intention

Throwing books away – impossible! But what to do with the read books? Like food-sharing, book-sharing is a wonderful thing. With BookCrossing, the path of the released book can even be followed in the Internet. There are more and more bookcases: in discarded telephone booths, colorfully painted electrical boxes, exchange corners in cafes and hotels, hollowed-out trees… Always good for surprises, what the others leave behind: an unknown author, a lost copy… Browsing on the shelf promotes lucky hits and so the books get a second life. The largest open library in Ulm has just been built in the waiting room at a large public bus stop (Ulm, Ehinger Tor): it was immediately accepted but unfortunately had to be closed during the Corona crisis

Beschreibung
