I would like to present the Christmas crib from my village Seißen. Every Christmas it is build up in the church of Seißen with much love.
Everything is closely connected with the village Seißen. Everything is handmade.
An important aspect is to preserve the knowledge of the traditional local dresses.
How would it have looked like if the baby Jesus had been born in Seißen?
With this question women have started to work on the Christmas crib. All clothes are made to the best of our knowledge from original fabrics, true to detail, with undergarments, shoes and gifts for the child.
The dolls were made by Ruth Häcker. A man from Seißen built a pram and a wooden wheelbarrow according to the original version, together with the baking tools. Also the large flock of sheep of the wandering shepherd and the typical landscape of the Swabian Alb are to be found in the crib representation.
Intention
The knowledge of traditional dresses is fascinating. You can recognize the status by the costume, also origin, prosperity, religious affiliation and profession can be seen.
Preserved traditional costume pieces tell of the dressmaker’s diligence and skill, but also of thriftiness and need.
The apron was changed according to the activity. The “better” apron when you left the house or the Sunday apron and you were dressed accordingly.
With pregnant women it was said that they wore a “hunchbacked” apron.
Traditional costume dresses, which were worn in the Swabian Alb before 1850, show parallels to the costumes of the Danube Swabian emigrants.
Nativity scenes tell much more than the story of Jesus’ birth. The regional context inspires me so much that I would like to present the Christmas crib of my village.
Beschreibung:
Ich möchte die Weihnachtskrippe aus meinem Dorf Seißen vorstellen. Jedes Weihnachten wird diese mit viel Liebe in der Kirche aufgestellt.
Alles ist ganz eng mit Seißen verbunden. Alles ist handgemacht.
Ein wichtiger Aspekt ist, das Wissen um die örtlichen Trachten, zu erhalten.
Wie hätte es wohl ausgesehen wenn das Jesuskindlein in Seißen geboren worden wäre?
Mit dieser Frage haben sich Frauen, an die Arbeit gemacht. Alle Kleidungsstücke sind nach bestem Wissen aus Originalstoffen detailgetreu gefertigt, mit Unterkleidern, Schuhen und Geschenken für das Kind.
Die Puppen fertigte Ruth Häcker. Ein Seißener baute nach einem Original einen Kinderwagen und einen Schubkarren aus Holz, mitsamt dem Backwerkzeug.
Auch die große Schafherde des Wanderschäfers und die Alblandschaft sind in der Krippendarstellung zu finden.
Absicht
Das Wissen um die Trachten ist faszinierend. Kann man doch an der Tracht den Stand erkennen, auch Herkunft, Wohlstand, Religionszugehörigkeit und Berufsstand sind abzulesen.
Erhaltene Trachtenstück erzählen vom Fleiß und der Geschicklichkeit der Näherin, aber auch von Sparsamkeit und Not.
Je nach Tätigkeit wurde die Schürze gewechselt. Die „bessere“ Schürze wenn man aus dem Haus ging, oder die Sonntagsschürze und schon war man entsprechend gekleidet.
Bei Schwangeren hieß es: Die trägt eine „buckelige“ Schürze.
Trachtenkleidern, welche vor 1850 auf der Schwäbischen Alb getragen wurden, weisen Parallelen zu den Trachten der Donauschwäbischen Auswanderer auf.
Krippendarstellungen erzählen weit mehr als die Geschichte um Jesu Geburt. Der regionale Kontext begeistert mich so sehr, dass ich die Krippe meines Dorfes vorzustellen möchte.
