Constantin Brancusi (1876 – 1957) Simplicity as a principleConstantin Brâncuși (1876 - 1957) - Simplitatea ca principiuConstantin Brancusi (1876 – 1957) – Einfachheit als Prinzip

Description

Constantin Brancusi was a former sculptor of the modern age who was friends with other famous artists, such as Auguste Rodin. He was particularly known for breaking artistic standards of realistic and detailed reproduction. Brancusi’s sculptures and architectural works made of bronze, brass-clad iron, stone or wood were minimalistic – indeed, an embodiment of the motto: simplicity as a principle.

His abstract representations were particularly outstanding, often depicting egg-shaped heads, flying birds and the motif of the kiss. Even if presented simply, Brancusi’s works carried complex meanings, such as the tale of freedom or human bonding.

Intention

On my annual trips to Romania, my parents always told me about the history and culture of our country. They would often recount their own lives, which they have partly led under the communist regime. They told me that Christian customs, such as for example Christmas, were disapproved of and that the communist rule had a particularly great influence on Romanian art. What touched me deeply was the fact that the Romanian people could have been stripped of many artistic works: For example, the famous “Endless Pillar”, which commemorates the Romanian soldiers of WWI, should have been demolished during the communist era.

I find it particularly important to talk about these occurrences in order to preserve Brancusi’s cultural heritage and pass it on to my children.

Descriere

http://junleenyc.blogspot.com/2011/06/fondation-beyeler.html
