Our Danube dance group has not sorted out or rated. It wasn’t difficult to be accepted into the community either. The focus was on the human. And we danced around it! The mix of dancing and paddling made the day perfect. Folklore is the never-ending catchy tune that has always accompanied us. How often does a dance tune suddenly creep into my head even today (after three years). And suddenly everything is back. The rhythm of the dances, the rustling of the Danube, the ease of life.
How is youth connected to your cultural treasure?
Infected by two dance-mad grammar school teachers, a dance group has formed at the Wieland grammar school, which has continued even after the two founders retired. Unfortunately, I haven’t been actively involved since I graduated from high school.
Is the cultural treasure you want to share typically only in your country?
No, it is very atypical, especially for young people, as folklore is generally seen as old-fashioned and uncool. I think that’s wrong. Something that brings so much joy shouldn’t go out of style!
How to preserve and pass on cultural heritage to younger generations?
I consider openness to be the key to the next generation. One must not cling to the old “values”. Why not stay changeable? Why think the younger ones are disinterested in traditional things like folklore? I believe traditions remain attractive when they can adapt to people’s current needs. For this, the essence of the respective tradition does not have to change. Just maybe the shape sometimes.
What is the way to give our knowledge to younger generations (educational system, youth festivals and holidays)?
I think school is a good opportunity. This is where many teenagers spend most of the day. That doesn’t just have to serve the purpose of providing the service.

Warum ist dieser Kulturschatz für dich wichtig?
Unsere Donau Tanzgruppe hat nicht aussortiert oder gewertet. Es war auch nicht schwer in der Gemeinschaft aufgenommen zu werden. Im Zentrum stand der Mensch und um ihn wurde getanzt! Die Mischung aus Tanz und Paddeln gab den perfekten Tagesablauf. Folklore ist der nie enden wollende Ohrwurm, der uns stets begleitet hat. Wie oft schleicht sich mir auch heute noch (nach drei Jahren) plötzlich eine Tanzmelodie in den Kopf. Und plötzlich ist alles wieder da. Der Rhythmus der Tänze, das Rauschen der Donau, die Leichtigkeit des Lebens.
Wie ist die Jugend mit diesem Kulturschatz verbunden?
Infiziert von zwei tanzwütigen Gymnasiums Lehrern hat sich eine Tanzgruppe am Wieland Gymnasium gebildet, welche sich auch jetzt, nach dem Ruhestand der beiden Begründer weiter hält. Ich bin seit meinem Abi leider nicht mehr aktiv dabei.
Ist der Kulturschatz typisch für dein Land oder deine Region?
Nein, es ist insofern sehr untypisch vor allem für junge Menschen, da Folklore allgemein als altmodisch und uncool angesehen wird. Das halte ich für falsch. Etwas das so viel Freude bereitet sollte nicht aus der Mode kommen!
Wie kann man das kulturelle Erbe bewahren und an jüngere Generationen weitergeben?
Ich halte Offenheit für den Schlüssel zur nächsten Generation. Man darf sich nicht auf die alten „Werte“ fest beißen. Warum nicht veränderbar bleiben? Warum denken, die Jüngeren seien desinteressiert an traditionellen Dingen wie Folklore? Ich glaube Traditionen bleiben dann attraktiv wenn sie sich den aktuellen Bedürfnissen der Menschen anpassen können. Dafür muss sich das Wesentliche der jeweiligen ja Tradition nicht verändern. Nur vielleicht manchmal die Form.
Wie können wir unser Wissen an jüngere Generationen weitergeben (Bildungssystem, Jugendfestivals und -ferien)?
Schule halte ich für eine gute Möglichkeit. Dies ist der Ort, an dem viele Jugendliche die meiste Zeit des Tages verbringen. Das muss nicht nur der Leistungserbringung dienen.
