I am Dario Puljić from Kreševo, a small town in the heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Kreševo is an old royal town, with a rich tradition. The people of Kreševo were considered good blacksmiths, who turned blacksmithing into art. “Horseshoeing” of Kreševo blacksmiths is a unique custom in the world. When a young blacksmith-student manages to “weave an egg”, it means that he has passed the craft exam and is ready for the title of blacksmith. Because the real art is to shoe an egg without cracking it. Many blacksmiths who were trained in this way were later excellent masters of filigree jewelry. This custom symbolizes two important characteristics of the people of this region – wit and skillful hands.

Blacksmithing and the custom of shoeing eggs, like most other traditional crafts, are dying out. I would like this tradition not to be forgotten and to inform people from other cultures about it!

Ja sam Dario Puljić iz Kreševa, malog gradića u srcu Bosne i Hercegovine. Kreševo je stari kraljevski grad, s bogatom tradicijom. Kreševljaci su važili kao dobri kovači, koji su kovački zanat pretvarali u umjetnost. “Potkivanje kokošjih jaja” kreševskih kovača jedinstveni je običaj u svjetu. Kada mladi kovač-učenik uspe da „potkuje jaje“ to označava da je položio zanatski ispit i da je spreman za titulu kovača. Jer, pravo je umeće potkovati jaje bez da ono pukne. Mnogi kovači koji su se tako obučavali bili su potom i izvrsni majstori filigranskog nakita. Uz to, ovaj običaj spaja i simbolizuje dve važne osobine ljudi ovog kraja, a to su duhovitost i vešte ruke.

Kovački zanat, kao i većina drugih tradicionalnih zanata je u izumiranju. Želim da ova tradicija ne bude zaboravljena i da je predstavim i ljudima iz drugih kultura.

Ich bin Dario Puljić aus Kreševo, einer kleinen Stadt im Herzen von Bosnien und Herzegowina. Kreševo ist eine alte, traditionsreiche Königsstadt. Die Bevölkerung Kreševos waren angesehene Schmiede, welche das Schmieden in eine Kunst verwandelten. Der “Hufbeschlag” der Schmiede Kreševos ist ein einzigartiger Brauch auf der ganzen Welt. Wenn ein junger Schmiedeschüler es schafft, ein „Ei zu wirken“, bedeutet das, dass er die Handwerksprüfung bestanden hat und den Titel eines Schmiedes verdient hat. Denn die wahre Kunst ist es, das Ei zu beschlagen, ohne es zu zerbrechen. Viele Schmiede, die auf diese Weise ausgebildet wurden, sind später großartige Meister des Filigranschmucks geworden. Dieser Brauch symbolisiert zwei sehr wichtige Eigenschaften der Menschen aus dieser Region: Scharfsinnigkeit und geschickte Hände.

Absicht
Wie viele andere traditionelle Handwerke sterben das Schmieden und der Hufbeschlag von Eiern aus. Ich möchte nicht, dass diese Tradition vergessen wird, und möchte die Menschen anderer Kulturen deshalb davon wissen lassen.
