Romanian Navy Day is a civil and military holiday, with an evocative character, in the spirit of the traditions of the Romanian people and is organized by state authorities and institutions through various civil, military and religious events, every year on August 15.

For the first time, Navy Day was celebrated on August 15, 1902 in close connection with the religious holiday of St. Mary, the patron saint of sailors.

The program of seafaring festivities includes:

• raising the flag – the moment of the beginning of the military ceremony;

• launching a wreath – to honor the memory of fallen heroes;

• military parade;

• the arrival of Neptune – the master of the seas and oceans, who opens the sea games;

• the baptism of sailors;

• sailing games and competitions – catching a pig,

                                                           – duck hunting,

                                                           – diving and boat racing,

                                                            – various other activities.

     These festivities are organized in all Romanian ports.

Intention

But, for the people of Orșova, August 15th is a double celebration, because it is also the Day of Orșova Municipality. An important port on the Danube, Orșova attracts more and more visitors every year, eager to attend the suite of seafaring events. During the day, those present can also visit the food and industrial fair open in the city center. Folk and modern music concerts take place in the afternoon, and at midnight the festivities end with wonderful fireworks.
