Banat
“Shore” is a traditional pastoral game that was once played in
Vojvodina and is still played today in Serbian part of Banat, in the village of
Tomaševac. Whether because of the preservation of tradition or because of the
passion for a game similar to American baseball, the Banat “Shore” resist. For
19 years, the “world championship” of this game has been regularly
organized.
This ancient game or “running ball” was played in the mornings, during the breaks of keeping the herd, and in Tomaševac during the breaks of building houses.
The word “shora” comes from Banat slang: “zašorati” or “šornuti“, which means to hit the ball. Banat “Shore” are still played with a hand-made ball, which is hit with a wooden stick – reminiscent of baseball. The team consists of 10 players, played on a wide field, with the first line marked – BASE 1 (cold girl) and the second line – BASE 2. 9 players of team A stand in the field and catch the ball that the players of team B hit in a row, and the tenth player of team A throws it at his opponents. A point is scored when the player of the striking team, after the shot, run the distance from BASE 1 to BASE 2 and back. If a player who runs is hit with a ball, teams exchange the roles.
Banatske “Šore”
Intention
For me, as a gym teacher, games with a long tradition are always interesting and important. I am thrilled that “Shore” reveals imminence between distant nations. With this example I want to remind all of us of our similarities and contribute to the further preservation of the ancient game.
