Description
The Cathedral of Ulm is something like the guiding point for Ulm. It’s the spot where people meet when they have an appointment, need to orientate themselves or want to take a vacation photo for their relatives.
With its 161.53 meter high tower, the cathedral has the highest church tower in the world and is also the largest Protestant church in Germany.
No matter of the time or the weather, there is always something going on at the Münster and on the Münsterplatz. A big bonus is the beautiful illumination at Christmas, adding even more to the Christmas feeling and the Christmas market located on the Münsterplatz.
When I moved to Ulm for my orientation studies, the Münster was always my point of navigation. Since I’m not good at remembering streets or surroundings, the church steeple, which is clearly visible from everywhere, always helped me out of trouble when I got lost.
I also have a great view of the cathedral from my dorm room, and it has become a ritual for me to always look at the cathedral as the first thing to do when I get up and last thing when I go to bed. You haven’t realized how small you really are until you stand right in front of this huge Gothic building and then start to think about how many people and their stories the cathedral has already seen!
Intention
If you are ever in Germany, you should definitely visit the Cathedral of Ulm!
Although it is very tiring to climb the 768 stairs of the tower, the climb is definitely worth it, because you have beautiful views of the city of Ulm on several platforms.
In addition, you can then also claim that you have already climbed the highest church tower in the world :). It is also very beautiful from the inside and very informative! You can sit on one of the benches and enjoy the interior of the cathedral and its silence or pray for yourself and your loved ones. Around the cathedral you are in the heart of Ulm and can discover shopping streets, restaurants and the Danube.

Das Ulmer Münster ist so etwas wie der Leitpunkt für Ulm. Hier trifft man sich, wenn man eine Verabredung hat, sich orientieren muss oder ein Urlaubsfoto für die Verwandten machen möchte. Mit seinem 161,53 Meter hohen Turm besitzt das Münster den höchsten Kirchturm der Welt und ist nebenbei auch noch die größte evangelische Kirche Deutschlands. Egal zu welcher Tageszeit und bei welchem Wetter: am Münster und auf dem Münsterplatz ist immer etwas los. Ein großer Bonus ist, dass es zu Weihnachten wunderschön angestrahlt wird und trägt somit noch mehr zum weihnachtlichen Gefühl und zu dem sich auf dem Münsterplatz befindenden Weihnachtsmarkt bei.
Als ich für mein Orientierungsstudium nach Ulm gezogen bin, war das Münster immer mein Anhaltspunkt. Da ich nicht gut darin bin, mir Straßen oder Umgebungen zu merken, hat mir der von überall gut sichtbare Kirchturm immer aus der Patsche geholfen, wenn ich mich verlaufen habe. Auch von meinem Zimmer im Studentenwohnheim habe ich eine tolle Sicht auf das Münster und es ist für mich ein Ritual geworden, beim Aufstehen und beim Zubettgehen immer als erstes und als letztes das Münster anzuschauen.
Wenn man das vor diesem riesigen gotischen Bau steht, wird einem erst mal bewusst, wie klein man wirklich ist und wie viele Menschen mit deren Geschichten das Münster schon gesehen hat.
Intention
Das Ulmer Münster sollte man, wenn man schon mal in Deutschland ist, auf jeden Fall besuchen! Obwohl es schon sehr anstrengend ist, die 768 Treppen des Turms hochzusteigen, lohnt sich der Aufstieg auf jeden Fall, da man auf mehreren Plattformen wunderschöne Ausblicke auf die Stadt Ulm hat.
Außerdem kann man dann ebenfalls von sich behaupten, dass man schon mal den höchsten Kirchturm der Welt bestiegen hat :). Es ist außerdem von innen sehr schön und sehr informativ! Man kann sich auf eine der Bänke setzen und das Innere des Münsters und seine Stille genießen oder für sich und seine Liebsten beten. Um das Münster herum ist man mitten im Herzen von Ulm und kann Einkaufsstraßen, Restaurants und die Donau entdecken.
