The folk costume from Bucovina, Romania – and some tools for its realization
Description
I was born in Bucovina, in a village near
the PUTNA monastery where Stephan the GREAT is buried. It is an area in
northern Romania, with an old folk and
tourist tradition.
I grew up in my grandmother’s yard,
from which I learned the crafts
practiced by the local women: spinning, weaving, sewing, knitting,
embroidering, crocheting,etc., crafts
that I know and practice ( occasionally) even today.
From my mother and grandmother I inherited
some costume pieces and the love for popular colors and motifs. These led to
the choice of my future profession in the fashion world.
From my personal collection, from several pieces , I choice for the competition 3 folk costumes and a fork with a spindle for spinning the wool thread. The costumes consist of: shirt/ie, catrința, bârneț (lap), poale ( skirt under catrința), woolen socks and opinci ( footwear) – made of cowhide. All executed manually .

Intention
My modern career as a textile engineer did
not take me away from the traditional world of folk costumes, which I did not
stop promoting both in Romania and abroad, whenever I had this opportunity.
As a member of SI Club Brasov, I
participated in many local, national and international events where I wore the
folk costumes: anniversaries of the SI Brasov Club and others, seminars and
other events, the 20th anniversary of the SI Club Musashino –
Tokyo-Japan – January 2004, SIE CONGRES in Vienn-July 2005, the XVIII
CONVENTION of SI in Glasgow -July -August 2007 next to the Romanian flag, etc.
I was happy when I found out about this
competition and I wanted to participate, taking advantage of this opportunity
to present my treasure “of soul” ,
in the hope that it will be exposed and seen by many people.
Descriere
