Traditional costume of the Salca ValleyPortul popular pe valea Salcă (Jichișu de Jos)

Description

Jichişu de Jos  is at a distance of 8 km from Dej. The traditional costume from here is the result of the influence of the ASTRA cultural movement, which imposed the black and white costume from the Marginimea Sibiului, as a national costume in Transylvania, in the second half of the 19th century.

The women’s folk costume was thus composed of a white shirt wrinkled around the neck with the opening in front, sewn with red or black thread with wide sleeves, finished with “fodori” (ruffles). Over the white home-woven cloth, sewn with red, were tied at the waist, two black squares embroidered with yellow silk. The men’s clothing specific to the area was the shirt with a narrow collar and white embroidery, finished in front with black buttons with wrinkled sleeves that ended at the bottom with “fists” embroidered with white silk. This shirt evolved into cuts by inserting pleats on the chest, embroideries with colored beads and was tied at the waist with a woven belt or a leather belt. The shirt was worn over trousers made of white cloth at first, then gray, tight on the leg. A jacket with a discreet ornament was worn over the shirt (today the man wears a white or black cloth jacket).

Intention

I am happy to present the traditional costumes of the people of the Salca Valley, and especially of my relatives, which you see in the pictures in the personal archive.

Descriere
