Vybiyka / print: the Ukrainian fabric decoration technique«Вибійка» або інакше «мальованка», «димка» Vybiyka: Die ukrainische Stoffdekorationstechnik

Description

“Vybiyka” or otherwise “malʹovanka/(painting)”, “dymka/(haze)” is considered to be one of the fabric decoration techniques in Ukrainian folk art. It was quite common in the 18th and 19th centuries among the poor rural inhabitants. So, the “vybiyka” is a fabric (mostly linen or hemp) with a pattern made with a carved wooden board. The ornament on such lime or pear boards had both simple geometric and rather complex flowery whimsical forms. The paint used in this case was usually made of linseed oil and natural dyes (roots, bark, leaves of plants and more). Today this type of decorative and applied art is becoming increasingly popular among artists, decorators, clothing designers for ornamentation of tablecloths, bedspreads, towels, pillowcases, curtains, women’s clothing or accessories with elements of ethnic style and more. It is possible such popularity is due to the simplicity of the print, its expressiveness and effectiveness.

Intention

A significant component of this type of Ukrainian decorative and applied art in the modern world is believed to be the reproduction of fabric decoration patterns of the century before last and their application today. It seems to be a unifying factor of generations of our ancestors and contemporaries. The print technique can be presented by the artist at any cultural events in the Danube region, such as festivals, fairs, exhibitions, etc. It can be both demonstration of own author’s compositions and organisation of workshops. Moreover, for each participant of the “vybiyka” workshop despite the presence own artistic abilities or skills this craft type will bring the joy of creativity. Certainly without spending a lot of time the participant will be able to create a lovely unique thing personally.

Beschreibung
